I'm composing this piece spontaneously. Hello everyone, it's Xiomara, from Black Lotus Braid Lounge. As the year draws to a close, I decided to write something genuine and directly from me. This post isn't just about maintaining your Knotless Braids; it also includes some updates about the salon.
Initially, when I contemplate maintaining my knotless braids, I focus on three aspects...
Clean Scalp - A crucial factor for comfort is having a clean scalp, as a clean scalp leads to a happy one. This principle applies not only to braids but to any hairstyle; your scalp serves as the foundation for your hair, and if it's not clean, your hair journey isn't starting on the right foot.
Frizz - As my braids age, I tend to notice some frizz around the areas where my natural hair is, as opposed to further down where it's just synthetic hair (though that can also get a bit frizzy at times). To tackle this, I prefer using a good foam to eliminate the frizz and add some moisture to my hair through the braids. I usually apply Nairobi foam, focusing on the roots and my edges, and then I sit under the dryer.
Encouraging growth and completing the process. I prefer to encourage growth using oils that support it. While many think that oil moisturizes hair, I actually use it to relieve tension and nourish my scalp and hair shaft with oils such as rosemary, castor oil, neem oil, and others. Additionally, I enjoy using Olive Oil Sheen as a finishing spray. I finish my edges with a light edge control that has few ingredients, or sometimes I apply a curl cream to my edges.
Have you heard of a Braid Refresh???
The Braid Refresh service includes an ACV rinse or foam cleanse, depending on the visible buildup on your braids. It also features a blow-dry and touch-ups for 10-20 braids. Please note, this service is not suitable for twists as they may unravel during the process.
During the appointment, we’ll unravel 1-2 rows of braids (up to 20 braids) and gently cleanse your scalp using an aloe vera-based product containing apple cider vinegar. Your scalp will feel refreshed, and your braids will be lighter and revitalized!
This service is a great alternative to a full braid install or for those who need extra scalp care while wearing braids. However, if your braids are too old (typically over 5-6 weeks), this service may not be possible. Wear and tear can also play a role, so please send pictures for assessment before booking.
We look forward to seeing you more at Black Lotus Braid Lounge in 2025!
